When it comes to sustainably changing bad habits, it takes a village. Below you'll find resources and tips to use outside of our sessions.
Eating disorder warning signs:
Emotional and behavioral symptoms:
· Are you preoccupied with weight, food, calories, body?
· Do you refuse to eat certain foods or food groups?
· Skipping meals or taking small portions?
· Picked up any new trendy diets?
· Have you been withdrawing from friends and activities?
· Do you have a fear of gaining weight?
· Do you experience mood swings especially after eating foods outside of “comfort zone”?
Physical symptoms:
· Are you noticeably cold more frequently?
· Have you lost your period?
· Feeling dizzier lately? Seeing stars?
· Feeling more tired than usual
· Is it hard to walk up stairs?
· Fainting?
· Constipated? Stomach cramping?
· Noticed hair falling out more than usual?
Tips for parents:

Avoid diet talk, diet foods

Avoid conversations revolving around food, diets, appearances, weight, exercise

Remove scales from the house

Pay attention to changes in child’s diet and exercise habit

Take your child to the pediatrician, alerting the doctor ahead of time your concern
-
Express your concern in a supportive, caring way ex) “I have noticed you are cutting out certain foods and I want to hear what that is about”

Try to remember this is not your fault, you did not cause this eating disorder
Take the time to educate yourself on eating disorders... knowledge is power
